Henry "Harry" Clunie, 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 2, 2019. Harry was born in Kearny, NJ to parents, Alexander and Jean, with sisters Agnes, Jean, and Vicki. A 1947 graduate of Kearny High School, Harry grew up in a bustling community surrounded by his fellow Scotch-Americans. Harry honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean conflict. His sharp wit and aptitude for arithmetic earned him an academic position with the Army. After his military service, Harry attended Fairleigh Dickinson University where he majored in Business Management, was a sports reporter for the school newspaper, The Pillar, and played striker for the FDU men's soccer team. Harry met his life-long "baby doll" Lucille, 86, of Orange, on a momentous excursion at the Jersey Shore in the 1950's. Together, they enjoyed 61 years of marriage and raised children, Christopher and Jan, in Springfield. Harry was a consummate salesman for renown corporations such as Ethan Allen Furniture, Campbell's Soup, Corning Glass, and Rawlings Sporting Goods. Along with his beloved wife, Lucille, the couple retired to the family's summer home in Lavallette where they enjoyed many warm summer nights together. Harry, an avid sports fan, was a season ticket-holder for the Knicks, Yankees, and Giants. He enjoyed playing tennis with his wife and was known to frequent The Argyle for Scottish delicacies such as fish and chips. Harry was notorious for his insatiable sweet tooth and cherished quizzing his five grandchildren, Ian, Rachel, James, Andrew, and Julia, on their knowledge of US State capitals. His family was always paramount for Harry and he enjoyed vacationing with them in Lavallette and at various destinations around the world. The memorial service is scheduled for Tuesday, February 5, 2019 between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at Gray Memorial Funeral Home in Cranford, with a funeral service at 4:30 .Burial service11 am on Wednesday morning (2/6) at the Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown. Flowers can be sent to Gray Memorial Funeral Home or donations can be made in Harry's name to the Greater New Jersey Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association
