Obituary

George F. MacKenzie, 83, longtime resident of Westfield NJ, went into the presence of his Savior and the Lord of his life on Thursday March 26 at home in Holmdel NJ. George was the son of Fred and Edith (Gibb) MacKenzie and grew up in Kenilworth NJ. He attended Jonathan Dayton HS in Springfield NJ and Wheaton College, Wheaton IL. After graduation he joined his father in the family business, MacKenzie Door Company, located on Reade St in NYC. MacKenzie Door was originally a factory representative business for Rixson door hardware and over the next 48 years George was with the company he grew it become the largest manual and automatic commercial door service and installation business in the NY Metro area.
George was a lifelong member of Kenilworth Gospel Chapel, Kenilworth NJ and deeply involved in the life of the church, first as a Trustee and then for many years as an elder. In addition to his public roles in the church George was a leader in many other quiet ways as well. The church that George cared about was the people, to shepherd them towards a deeper understanding and love for his Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ and to assist them however he could. He was a father figure to many in the help and direction he gave them.
George was also an athlete and a sports fan and golfer. He still holds two football records at Wheaton College and continued to follow their sports programs, watching games online. He enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports and would often go to a game he was aware of for someone from Kenilworth Chapel to support them. As a golfer he was a former member at Echo Lake Country Club and enjoyed the competition of playing golf with several different groups of friends.
George loved and cared for his family, his wife Caryl (Anderson) MacKenzie and his three children Scott MacKenzie and his wife Barb of Westfield NJ, Karyn Bush who predeceased him and her husband Joseph Bush of Andover MN and Kim Trimmer and her husband David Trimmer of High Bridge NJ as well as his sisters Edith Davies of Mechanicsburg PA and Mildred MacKenzie of Fort Meyers FL. He enjoyed the company of his grandchildren, Ian, Grace and her husband Ben Hess, Shaun, Hannah, and Erin as well as his great grandson, Finley.
George will be interred at Fairview Cemetery in a private ceremony on Monday 3/30/20 due to the current circumstances. We hope to have a Celebration of Life Memorial Service at some time in the future.
