Obituary for Mr. Frederick H. Di Trapani

August 2, 1956 - June 8, 2019
Cranford, New Jersey | Age 62

3pm – 7pm at Gray Funeral Home, 12 Springfield Avenue, Cranford, NJ.

Fred Di Trapani, born on August 2, 1956, passed away peacefully at his home in Cranford, NJ on June 8, 2019. Born and raised in Manhattan he ultimately moved to New Jersey for the sake of his family but the city never left him.

Fred had a passion for music whether it was listening to it loudly on the radio or playing it on the piano. He never learned to read sheet music, playing exclusively by ear. When he heard a song on the TV he liked he would sit at the piano for hours trying to work it out until he got it right.

Fred also enjoyed outings with friends and family: hiking, boating, bar hopping, shopping (especially for gadgets and food) just to name a few. God forbid you were in his sights as you headed out the door because then you'd be enlisted as his sidekick for the rest of the day.

Later in life Fred's passions extended towards cooking, particularly the science involved in it. He spent hours researching and writing notes about the various recipes he wanted to try, some of which never even made it to the kitchen.

Fred is survived by his wife Milka Di Trapani, with their loving children Elizabeth and Thomas Di Trapani and his two sisters Anne and Laura Di Trapani as well as the many life-long friends Fred has collected over the years that he considered family. P.S. he is also survived by a warehouse of tools and flashlights that could put Home Depot out of business.

A Life celebration for Fred will be Friday from 3 to 7 pm, at Gray Memorial Funeral home in Cranford. Prayers and eulogy during the gathering
