Eva June Browne (nee Huneke) passed away April 1, 2015 at the Center for Hope in Scotch Plains, NJ. She was 89. Eva was born in the Bronx on June 5, 1925 to parents Mary and William Huneke. Her two brothers, Fred and William, preceded her in death. After graduating High School in Richmond Hill, Queens, she worked for the Holland American Line in Manhattan. While there she met and then married Frank P. Browne in New York City on October 23, 1948.
After her two sons, Richard and John, were born in NY, the family moved to Cranford, NJ in 1957 where they lived on Walnut Avenue. Two daughters, Susan and Laura, were born in NJ. Eva was a homemaker and loving mother who was proud that all four children graduated college and went on to successful careers. Her husband Frank passed away in March 1986. She is survived by son Richard and his wife Vicki Browne of Midlothian, VA, son John Browne and wife Sabrina Sam of Larkspur, CA, daughter Susan Browne Rosenberg and husband Jess Rosenberg of Palm Desert, CA, and daughter Laura and husband Eric Spichiger of Stamford, CT. She had five grandchildren, Rebecca Browne Allen, Erin and Allison Browne, Katie and Kevin Spichiger, and one great grandson, Wesley Hobbs Allen.
On a personal note, Eva was an avid reader and regularly attended the theatre. In particular she often went to see plays with family and friends at the Paper Mill Playhouse in Millburn. Eva traveled extensively in her later years, seeing much of the US and traveling abroad extensively as well.
Eva was a long-standing member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Azure Chapter No. 87 of Cranford. She was also an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Cranford. Her bowling team supported the work of the Union County Unit of the NJ Association for Retarded Citizens.
Cremation services will be private and a memorial service and life celebration will be held at Gray Memorial of Cranford NJ from 4-8 pm on July 10, 2015.
