EDWARD LOWE SEMPLE, Jr. January 6,1925 - February 11, 2022

Edward L. Semple, Jr. graduated to his heavenly home on Friday, February 11th in Charlotte, North Carolina. Prior to moving to Charlotte in 2014, Edward was a longtime resident of Cranford, New Jersey since 1955. Edward was predeceased by his parents, Ted and Louise of Coral Gables, Florida and his sister, Patsy. Edward married Millicent Hempel in August 1952 and were married for almost 62 years before her passing in April of 2014. Edward is survived by his children: Georgiann S. Hopkins (Michael), Charles E. (Barbara), August K. (Susan), and Holly Hansook Chisholm (Thomas). Edward was blessed with seven grandchildren: Daniel W. (Andrea), Jeremy M. Hopkins, Amy B, August Karl, Jr (Valerie), Katherine L. Madonna (Brian), Bryan C., and Abigail G. Drass (Justin). He also had six great grandchildren: Landon D., Audrey M. (Breslin), Tyler W., Mason E., Charlotte R., and August J. Edward also leaves behind several dearly loved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Edward graduated from Ponce De Leon High School in Coral Gables, Florida and would go on to attend the University of Georgia in Athens, where he would letter in swimming as a freshman. He was also a champion tennis player in the Miami area. In his later years, he won many medals in the Senior Olympics primarily for swimming. Edward transferred to the University of Florida in Gainesville, Florida and would earn his business degree at the University of Miami in his hometown. He also attended the University of Miami School of Law and New York Law School. Edward was a veteran of World War II serving with the United States Navy from August 1943 to May 1946 and was a Second Lieutenant with the Air Force Reserve.

Edward began a 35 year career with the Cranford Post Office in the late 1950s. Throughout his years in beloved Cranford, Edward and Millicent would open their home to foster children in Union County where they received love and care. As a deeply spiritual man, Edward and his wife would raise their children in church and were most recently members of Evangel Church in Scotch Plains, New Jersey where together they sang in the choir. Edward had a special love for music including Irish tunes and sacred music.

Graveside services will be private for the family at 11am on Thursday, February 17, at Rosedale Cemetery in Linden New Jersey. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Romanian Casa Sanctuary Orphanage and can be sent to:
