Obituary for Mrs Celina Tonda

December 6, 1930 - October 7, 2020
Miami, Florida | Age 89

Celina Tonda of Miami, Florida

12-16-1930 – 10-7-2020

Our beloved mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister and friend, Celina Tonda, has passed.

Born in the town of Iguara, Cuba, she was the mother of Adrian, Hortensia and Tania.

She will be missed immensely not only for the wonderful mother, wife, sister, grandmother, greatgrandmother and friend that she was, but for her grace, patience, strength, and tolerance.

Celina's heart was large and carried many. She was a kind soul who was generous with her time and consideration and gave of herself selflessly. If you were family, a friend or neighbor, you knew her friendship and generosity. Celina gave of herself without hesitation and was always willing to help anyone in need. It was her small gestures of kindness that made her memorable.

Her strength and resilience shown through the hardships of her life. Leaving her homeland through a perilous journey from Cuba and making a life with her husband and children in the United States. She worked tirelessly for her family and never wavered. She never forgot her family in Cuba and worked hard to help them as well.

Celina loved the earth and all its flora – there were none she did not know. To spend time in a garden with her was a lifelong lesson.

For those who had her cooking, they know they tasted the best Cuban cuisine ever. She was a master of the pressure cooker and that was no easy feat.

Celina lived her life quietly, but in a grand way. The small, humble things were most special to her. She took nothing for granted and she valued all that she had. She did not ask for anything more other than to be with family. She was adventurous and enjoyed every opportunity to travel with them.

These words are but an echo of what Adrian, Hortensia, Tania, and her grandchildren feel. They are stronger for having her in their life and she will be missed, but not forgotten. If we are lucky, we will always have subtle reminders of her – in a garden, perhaps. Or maybe through the grace and kindness she taught her children and grandchildren.

Celina was the kind of person you always wanted at your side. Her quiet companionship, her smile, and gentle support gave us comfort.

To quote her grandson, "She was one of those people you want to live forever".
