Joan Louise Dalton, 88, long time Cranford, NJ resident, died Saturday, March 28, 2020 of respiratory failure after a short illness. Joan spent her final year at St. Joseph's Senior Home, Woodbridge, NJ.
She was born in Linden, NJ on September 27, 1931, the daughter of Michael and Rose Fragale Poleski. Joan grew up in Linden and graduated from Linden High School in 1948. She graduated from Elizabeth General Hospital School of Nursing in 1951 as a registered nurse. She married the love of her life, John (Jack) F. Dalton, Jr. in 1953. They were married for 63 years. Joan pursued further education and obtained BS, MS and PhD equivalent degrees in education from Jersey City State College.
She taught health education for 24 years at Burnet Jr High School, Union, NJ; Arthur L Johnson HS, Clark, NJ; Jonathan Dayton HS, Springfield, NJ and David Beardly HS, Kenilworth, NJ.
Joan loved to travel with Jack and spend time with family and friends. Many will remember Joan in the stands watching Jack coach basketball at St. Benedict's Prep High School. Joan was always involved in planning fun family gatherings and parties and the next best travel adventure with her husband Jack.
Joan is survived by her six children: John F Dalton III, Louise (Kenneth) Huebschman, Susan Marshall, Carol (Kevin) Farrell, Michael (Lisa) Dalton and Timothy (Rosa) Dalton, sixteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A sister Patricia (Bill) Alcaro also survives her.
Her husband Jack; her parents; three brothers; Charles Polaski, Richard Polesky, and Donald Poleski; and a sister Constance Poleski precede Joan in death.
A memorial service and Mass of Christian Burial with internment at Fairview Cemetery will be planned for a later date. Gray Memorial Funeral Home, Cranford NJ, will handle funeral arrangements.
